PORCARO, STEVE

Steven Maxwell Porcaro is the youngest son of the Porcaro's, born on September 2nd, 1957 in Hartford (Conneticut). He left highschool, two months before his high-school graduation to go on tour with => Gary Wright. He married in 1971 and became a father shortly afterwards (a daughter named Heather), but this highschool-marriage didn't last for long. In 1981 he met => Rosanna Arqette, with whom he had a very serious relationship. On Michael Jackson's "Thriller" they are listed as "Steve and Rosanna Porcaro", although they never got married. Steve left Toto in 1987 as an official member since he couldn't agree any longer with the musical direction where Toto was heading. His songs were of a different kind and didn't "fit" on Toto's albums. nevertheless, since then he had worked on every TOTO album.

David Paich had another view on Steve Porcaro's leaving Toto in an interview with "Keyboard" (May 1988):
Actually the only ties he has broken with Toto are the legal ones. "Nothing have really changed except from a legal standpoint," Paich explains. "Steve broke the legal strings so he could go out and get a record deal and do different kinds of projects on his own. Contractually, when he's a member of Toto, he's tied up from legally doing a solo album. He's a full honorary member of Toto. He probably did more synths on this album ['The seventh one'] than he has on any of the other albums. And as usual he's a part of the touring party. We call him the Chester Thompson [Genesis tour drummer] of Toto. During the album production it was business as usual. He was in the studio everyday working on the Toto album as he will always do. He just needed the freedom to go do what he wanted to do.

After leaving Toto, Steve focussed on making soundtracks. Some of them:
'The Sentinel' (television series). The soundtrack is available on the Sonic Image label (SID 8802) Seven tracks by Steve, three by J.N Howard and seven by someone else.
'Primal fear' (with Richard Gere, 1996). Steve wrote and performed two songs on the soundtrack ('Chez What'/'Pammy Shaw')
'Metro' (with Eddie Murphy) Steve did the music, with help from Paich and Mike Porcaro.
"Letters From A Wayward Son"

He married Pam Ross, his girlfriend of four years on September 12, 1998. They have a son, Dominic and a daughter Michaela.
