TOTO, MEANINGS OF THE WORD
In the Swahili language, the word "toto" means "young one". In Latin, it stands for
"all-encompassing"
Also, the Latin phrase "toto genere" means "on the
whole", and "toto caelo" means "diametrically
opposite". "TOTO" in Germany or Holland,
means placing a bet on soccer games. In Japan, it's the name of that
nation's leading toilet bowl manufacturer. Of course, Toto was
Dorothy's companion in the 1934 classic movie "The Wizard
of Oz". Most people assume this is where the band Toto got
its name, but did you know that to the French, a "toto"
is a lazy person? Toto was also the name of a clown in the play
"A Yankee Circus on Mars", which was once performed
at the no-demolished Hippodrome Theatre in New York City.
The word "toto" means a lot of things in different countries
and different cultures. it's one the most versatile words
in the world! And isn't that representative of what Toto, the
band, is all about ? (Thanks to Amy Ramey, Toto Legend 1985)
