"LEA", LEAD VOCAL ON
"Lea", written by =>Steve Porcaro for the "Fahrenheit" album was not sung by Steve Porcaro but by =>Joseph Williams. Steve Porcaro explains this to the Toto fanclub magazine "Legend":
"When Joseph left the band, it expecially hurt me because I'd finally
found a guy who could sing my songs. Part of the reason I don't think I had so
many songs on Toto records is because I always felt like I had to sing my
songs. Lukather was too Lukather and Paich was Paich, and the lead singer
had too many chops.
But with Joseph, I had a guy who could sing "Lea!" I
had done a vocal on "Lea" and it was excruciating, painful! I was in the
studio and it was a nightmare. But I finally did it, and we were gonna
put it on the record. Then Joseph came in the band and I had him listen to
the way I did the song and I said, "Okay now, you try it." He went in there
and he nailed it for me. I was so thankful that we finally had a lead
singer who could sing my songs."
