"EQUILIBRIUM"
Fergie Frederiksen, lead singer of Toto in 1984, has released an album called "Equilibrium" in 1999.Fergie's started his music career on the early age of 13 and performed in music clubs when he was 15. He got hooked on music by concerts of legendary artists like The Who, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. In 1975 Fergie moved to Chicago and replaced his friend Tommy Shaw in the band MS Funk, since Shaw went to join Styx. Shortly after, Patrick Leonard met Fergie and together they formed Trillion. Patrick Leonard later on worked as Madonna's musical director and produced other like Jewel and Roger Waters.
Fergie's friendship with Ricky Phillips started in 1980, when they did a lot of session work together. While Fergie was with the band => LeRoux, Ricky knew Toto was looking for a new lead singer. He gave Jeff Porcaro a video and Fergie had the job.
After Toto's "Isolation" in 1984 it became really quiet around Fergie.
"I was pretty fed up with music and the people at the time", Fergie says. In order to support his family (he has two sons) he started in the restaurant business,
but after some time he missed making music. "I really missed performing and recording more than I could ever explain. Sometimes it takes losing what you have to
realise how much it means... Sounds like an old blues tune !".
In 1995 Fergie made a comeback with "Frederiksen/Phillips", on which he collaborated with Ricky Phillips (ex-Bad English).
"Equilibrium" has been release MTM Music, produced by his friend Ricky Phillips. The line up for this album is as follows: Ron Wisko (Foreigner, Cher) Tim Pierce (Rick Springfield, John Waite), Steve Porcaro (Toto), Jason Scheff (Chicago), Neal Schon (Journey) and Denny Laine (Wings, Moody Blues).
Fergie's voice hasn't changed over the years, he still can do both "heavier" songs as well as ballads. "Equilibrium" is a good balance between the heavier songs (like "Blaze of love", "Mata hari") and the ballads ("The truth is good enough", "Best I can be"), which propably appeals to a wide audience.
