TOP GUN (soundtrack)

The hit song from "Top Gun,""Danger Zone", sung by Kenny Loggins, was originally intended for Toto.

Kenny Loggins on "Danger Zone:"

I got lucky on that one...Toto was originally selected to sing the song, but their lawyers didn't get along...and they needed a singer in a hurry. I was in the studio recording another song for Top Gun, that I did write...called "Playing With the Boys." They asked me if I would be interested in doing Danger Zone...and I needed an uptempo song in my show. So I said yes...and the rest is history. (Source Unknown)

In addition to "Danger Zone," Toto was also supposed to record one more song for the film: "Only You." After the falling out with the producers, "Only You" was shelved until it was later released on the => Kingdom of Desire record.

From the liner notes of "Best Ballads:"

"Only You" - Steve Lukather: A song Dave and I actually wrote for the movie "Top Gun." It was intended as the theme track, but they chose "Take My Breath Away" instead. We saved it for one of our records.
