Alfred Lagarde was a Dutch DJ and a huge Toto fan. He was close to the band and hardly missed a show when they toured the Netherlands. On his famous radio show "Countdown Cafe" he played a lot of Toto's music and interviewed the guys in the band whenever they were around. He would surprise the band by showing up in foreign countries just before a show or in the middle of the night.
In 1992 he recorded them during the "Kingdom of Desire" tour in "De Maaspoort" (Den Bosch, The Netherlands) which was the basis for the "Absolutely Live" album. He died on January 1st 1998 at the age of 49.
Toto dedicated the
=>"Toto XX" album to him.
In a dutch interview with "Music Minded" magazine (1998), Steve Lukather explains the dedication of "Toto XX" to Alfred Lagarde:
When I got the message that he had passed away I nearly had to cry and smile at the same time. He had a wonderful soul, man. The Netherlands will never be the same without him. Yeah, his pictures is in all the cd's. We don't owe an apology to anybody. Jeff and Alfred are family and friends. They were, but they will live on in our hearts. If people ask us who's that guy, we'll explain. Alfred's always been kind to us. He made us big in the Netherlands. Thanks to him we sold millions of records here...
