The Grammy Awards are the Oscars for the music industry. To date, Toto has received 9 Grammy nominations. In 1977 they were nominated for “Best New Artist,” but they struck gold in 1982.
“Toto IV” was named “Album of the Year” and “Best Engineered Recording,”
=> “Rosanna” won for “Record of the Year” and “Best Vocal Arrangement.” Toto themselves were voted “Producers of the Year.” David Paich, Jeff Porcaro and Jerry Hey won for “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals” for “Rosanna.”
At that time, Toto held the record for the most Grammys ever awarded to a single band in one year. That record was broken the next year by => Michael Jackson for the “Thriller” record, which ironically, features all of the members of Toto on many of the tracks. The band was awarded certificates for performing behind Michael Jackson on
=> “Beat It,” which won “Record of the Year.” Steve Porcaro was recognized for his arranging and vocal work on “Thriller.”
In 1996,
=> Elliot Scheiner and
=> “Tambu” were nominated for “Best Engineered Album.” Scheiner was again nominated in the same category for
=> “Mindfields” in 1999.
As far as individual recognition, Steve Lukather shared honors for “Best Rhythm & Blues Song” with
=> Jay Graydon and Bill Champlin for => “Turn Your Love Around” in 1983, the same year “Toto IV” was a big hit.
