Comment: Hi Simon, been along time. I see you've done quite well for yourself since we left school.lol. If your in the country there is a school reunion in July. We could gaze in awe at the shrine to George Michael they've got there.
Obviously it would be great to hear from you.

He's retired from drumming now (well he is 69!) and does an odd bit of teaching. i'd like to come up to the Drum fest on the 12th july and will try and drag al along so if you'd like to see him again please feel free to get in touch through me or his web page.http://www.burgoynedrums.co.uk/.

Comment: Dear Simon,

How are you doing? and how's mixing on your new live album?!
It's been only 3 months since you played in Japan
and I'm already missing your gigs.

The other day, I came up to your video in which you played with
Stanley Clarke.
That was the moment that I wish I was born earlier to be there,
in the audience!

By the way, I went to Scotland to see your old friend Nik Kershaw.
Needless to say, I was touched!!!
I brought the album cover of his with your autograph on it with
a message for Nik.
He was extraordinary surprised and happy with it!
I also thank you for your thoughts!

Here's I've found something interesting in Nik's web site...

"Who would you consider to have been the most diverse and dynamic
drummer you have played with?"

"I guess the two that stick out are Simon Phillips and Vinnie Collaiuta.
They both have 4 brains (one for each appendage)."

4 brains... I knew it!!!

Comment: Dear Simon,

I just want to say that you are my idol since I saw you on the German TV show "Superdrumming" with Pete York. The first time I saw you live, was with Toto in Hanover at the music hall. You startet with "gipsy train"..I would almost say, this evening changed my life. I am playing drums too and I try to sound my drum set like yours, because you have defintively the best drum sound in my ears. There are so many drummers who have made their "homeworks" and are perhaps faster than you- but who is interested in?
You are playing so aesthetic and you are the drummer who really cares about your sound! Above all you are very likable and not arrogant.
I don't know if I could express with my "broken English" what I wanted to.
I just wanted to write that you are the one who influenced and inspired me more than anyone else. Hope to see you again soon in Germany!
All the best,

Marco

Comment: Hi,

I saw details of the drum workshop you are doing on 13 July in Norwich. I've also seen a date in Glasgow. Where can I get a full list of clinics you are doing elsewhere? I live 5 hours from Glasgow and 3 hours from Norwich - are you doing anything in the Midlands, like Birmingham or maybe London?

Thanks!

Andy

Comment: Hi Mr Phillips! I was bored at work and came across this site, long story why. I've never really been one for hero worship but I'd have to say you have inspired me for 30 years, ever since I heard you on Gary Moore's "Back On The Streets". The drum intro on "What Would You Rather Bee Or A Wasp" has been rattling around my head ever since.

All the tracks you played on that album are brilliant (the rest not so much).Your playing partly makes me want to give up and partly to keep trying harder. Thanks for all the great music over the years.

Comment: What a shame for us to get to know that you had so many problems during your sound check.

After 10 year you should have been treated like a king because the guys down here REALLY love your drumming Simon.

I hope people take good care of you next time.

Luv,

VAL
