Frontiers Records is thrilled to announce the European release of STEVE
LUKATHER's brand new studio album entitled "Ever Changing Times" on February
22nd 2008.
Best known as guitar player and singer for TOTO and tireless session man,
Steve Lukather released so far three vocal solo albums. "Ever Changing
Times" is certainly another musical gem to be added to the list of top
quality productions featuring his classic trademarks: exquisite playing,
finely crafted productions and a very diverse range of music styles,
encompassing heartfelt ballads, straight-ahead rockers and fusion
extravaganza.
"It's been 10 years since my last "vocal" record", explains Lukather,
introducing his new album "And I thought it was time to rock again and
sing". While his songwriting and abilities naturally evolved with time, one
can't deny that "good music is always good music", especially when the
creative process was "done in the traditional way: guys playing in a room
together and writing good songs".
The result of this new studio effort, which lasted several months in between
Toto tours during 2007, are eleven songs which incorporate all aspects Steve
Lukather is well known for. "The record rocks harder than Toto, but there is
enough melodic stuff on there to please any Toto fan. There is also stuff
that sounds youthful because my co-producer Steve Macmillan and my son were
keeping me honest and up to date" says Luke, "It shows a lot of my
influences and music I like. If it sounds good, then I keep it".
Steve of course could not make it all on his own. How could a musician that
played on hundreds of records of other amazing artists could make it without
some help ? But this time there are some very special people and friends
involved. "My writing partner / executive producer Randy Goodrum suggested
that I should do this record. He got me excited to do something different
and work with such great players and songwriters. I was also thrilled that
my son Trevor co-wrote 2 of the tunes with us and my daughter sang on a tune
and all my friends and amazing musos came out to support". The list of
special guest also includes former Toto singer Joseph Williams and Chicago's
Bill Champlin on background vocals, Leland Sklar on bass, Steve Weingart,
Jeff Babko, Randy Goodrum on keyboards and synths plus a Steve Porcaro cameo
on one track, Abe Laboriel Jr. on drums and other friends and guest stars
who all lent their talent to ensure a truly exciting and fresh result.
"I think if you blindfolded rock critics and played them "Tell Me What You
Want From Me", they would be VERY surprised to find out who the artist is",
says Luke presenting the songs on the new album, adding "I also really like
the way "Stab in the Back" turned out. I am a Steely Dan fan and I know
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and this was a tribute to them".
"Ever Changing Times" offered Steve Lukather a unique chance to showcase his
invigorating musical freedom and is set to give the listener a complete
reward for his attention and dedication.

David Paich as music coordinator on US TV Special —
Last update: Wed, Nov 28, 2007
SEVEN-TIME GRAMMY WINNER DAVID PAICH TO SERVE AS ONE OF THE MUSIC COORDINATORS FOR PRIME-TIME CBS SPECIAL MOVIES ROCK
Founding Toto Member Will Oversee Talent Including Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Elton John for Special to Air Dec. 7 on CBS
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 26, 2007—Seven-time Grammy winner David Paich, whose songs for Toto include the 1983 Record of the Year “Rosanna” and co-writing the chart-topping “Africa” with Jeff Porcaro, will serve as Music Coordinator for the Movies Rock two-hour prime-time special, airing December 7 on CBS from the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
Carrie Underwood will sing the theme from the Sound of Music, Beyonce will perform “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” while Elton John will do a tribute to music from animated films. Other artists scheduled to appear include Mary J. Blige and John Legend singing a duet on Casablanca’s “As Time Goes By,” Jennifer Hudson performing a medley of James Bond themes and John Williams leading an orchestra in a medley of his movie themes.
The special is being produced in part by the Producers Guild of America and Conde Nast Media Group as part of their special magazine supplement sent free this month to subscribers of 14 of their titles. The Movie Rocks issue, dedicated to the use of music in films, features Bill Murray on the cover dressed as Vegas-era Elvis.
“I love award-winning film music and giving the selections a musical twist is a real challenge for me,” commented Paich, who earned Producer of the Year and songwriting honors for “Rosanna” at the ’82 Grammys, when Toto IV won a then-record six awards. “Working with people of this caliber is always an honor.”
Paich is one of the most successful songwriter/producers in pop music. His hits for Toto include “99,” “Hold the Line” and “Georgy Porgy,” as well as Cheryl Lynn’s smash, “Got to Be Real.” His credits include co-writing with Boz Scaggs on songs like “What Can I Say” and “Lowdown,” for which he shared a Best Rhythm & Blues Song Grammy in 1977. Paich earned an Emmy Award for Best Song with his father, songwriter/ composer Marty, for the Ironside theme, “Light the Way.” He wrote or co-wrote songs for Bryan Adams, Cher, George Benson, Jon Anderson and Chicago, among many others. Those for whom he has worked as an arranger include Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Patti Austin and Donna Summer.
Simon Phillips, who played drums on the soundtrack of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - At World's End", is also featured in a documentary about the music of the movie on the 2 Disc Special Edition DVD box which has just been released. If you wacth carefully, you can catch some shots of him playing drums and talking to the composer Hans Zimmer.
Here are some more details on that collaboration from Simon himself:
"I have known Hans Zimmer for many years dating back to when we were both living in London. I believe we played on some sessions together. When I moved to LA he tracked me down and I worked on a few soundtracks at his studio, Media Ventures. The Lion King, The Preacher's Wife and a few others which escape me now. I got a call out of the blue to work on POTC 3 and off I went to Todd AO (a beautiful soundstage which sadly will close it's doors in December) and was set up in the large room where they were recording the orchestra. Wonderful sounding room which of course makes my job so much easier. We did a few cues that evening and it was fun to do some move work again. Hadn't read a chart with bar 247 in it for years - ha ha !!!
Anyway - Hans hadn't finished the score yet and I was just about to leave for Europe to tour with Toto. He insisted that I play on the rest of the score so whilst I was in Stuttgart he arranged for a studio there to be linked to his studio in Santa Monica - sent a load of files over to the Stuttgart studio via internet - and I went in and recorded the rest of the score. We used iChat to communicate with each other. Pretty cool really!"
On December 1, BBC Radio 2 will be broadcasting Thriller – Michael Jackson’s Masterpiece. The hour-long documentary tells the story of the most successful long player of all time.
The show features all the songs from the album with contributions from producer Quincy Jones, songwriter Rod Temperton, engineer Bruce Swedien, former CBS President Walter Yetnikoff, founder of MTV Bob Pittman, Paul McCartney, Toto's Steve Lukather and Greg Phillinganes, dancer Jeffrey Daniel and Motown President Berry Gordy.
We hear the story of how the LP nearly never got off the ground, how – when it finally did – it was a disaster and rapidly remixed, how the music critics reacted, how MTV came to Jackson’s rescue and how he returned the favour by making MTV the international station it is today. And, we he hear about the songs which catapulted Jackson into the status of global superstar.
Here is, at last, a Jackson documentary about the music, the phenomenon which became Thriller.
Toto fans will enjoy Luke recalling his and Jeff Porcaro's reaction to hearing Jackson and McCartney's The Girl Is Mine for the first time and how they laughed at the song's lyrics. Luke also talks about his role on Beat it and the use of Eddie Van halen for the song. Luke and Mike Porcaro discuss how Human Nature was rejected by the band who wanted to go down the rock and roll road more and Greg goes shopping with Jackson at the height of his fame.
The documentary - produced by Neil Cowling and Jed Pitman – airs on BBC Radio 2 on December 1 at 8pm GMT .

Bobby Kimball will preside over the jury for the final concert of the contest "BATTLE OF THE TOTO COVER BAND" October 18th, 2007 9pm at Magazzini Generali, Milan, Italy, via Pietrasanta 14. The CDs of the bands were heard by Bobby Kimball and the staff of GGM Studios. Two bands were then decided upon from that collaboration for the contest finals. When the winner is picked, Bobby will sing one or two songs with the winning band.
With permission of Luke we bring you the first photo of the Lukather family with its newest member Lily Rose. The picture was taken by Lily's godfather Sterling Ball and features from left to right Tina Lukather, Steve Lukather, Lily Rose and Trevor Lukather.
Yesterday, Luke became a father for the third time after his wife, Shawn, gave birth to their daughter Lilly Rose. Congratulations to Luke and his family!
David Paich is currently in China preparing to write a theme for the 2008 Olympic Games:
"I am currently in China (Shanghai) and have been here for two weeks on a vacation with my wife Lorraine and daughter Elizabeth. I am doing some research to write a theme for the 2008 Olympics. My daughter (who sings Bejing opera) is over here with me helping to translate for me with all the different Ethnic instruments. It is a real education to experience the similarities and differences in China's 5000 year old culture and music. Pictures to come soon!"

Since Mike's recently announcement that he will be taking a break from the tour, we've received many questions as to the status of the upcoming DVD. Despite the fact that Mike Porcaro will be absent, the DVD will be filmed as planned, with Lee Sklar appearing in place of Mike.
For those fans not familiar with Lee, in addition to checking out our Lee Sklar Page, listen to the Inside MusiCast special edition PodCast with Lee to get his thoughts on the upcoming Toto Tour.
Any fan who attended TOTO shows over the last year noticed that Mike Porcaro had toured after having sustained a very painful injury to his left hand. Despite the fact that it was difficult, Mike persevered and played each and every date of the first leg of the Falling In Between Tour. After returning home, Mike sought medical treatment and has been recovering nicely; however, he has not been able to recuperate in time to join the band on the upcoming tour.
"I was hoping that the situation would be better by now," Mike states, "but it hasn’t improved. It’s gonna take a while. I’m working on it, and I hope to be back in the saddle soon enough. But, unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make this upcoming run. Nobody feels worse about it than me, but that’s the reality of it."
Despite the short notice, TOTO have recruited one of the best bass players around to substitute for Mike: acclaimed session musician and life-long friend Leland (Lee) Sklar. "Those of you on the TOTO Network have seen Lee; he’s a big part of the Network and what we’re trying to do there with the web. He’s going to play bass and you’re going to love it. You’re in great hands," says Mike, and jokes, "Come on down and see him play and see a real bass player."
Sklar, a renowned player whose credits include James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, and George Strait, is looking forward to playing with his long-time friends in TOTO. He will be filling in for Mike on all of the upcoming TOTO tour dates so that Mike has the time to fully recover. "I hope to see you all soon," says Mike. "I’m sorry that this is the way it is, but this is life and I’ll hopefully be back really soon. So God bless and enjoy the upcoming tour!"
Mike recorded a special video message apologizing for not being able to do the tour and introducing Lee to the fans.
For those of you who are not regular visitors of the TOTO Network and might therefore not be that familiar with Lee, check him out on our special page about him.
